Wow!

This has to be an child's (and, if I'm anything to go by, some adults) dream bedroom!

Oh, Mr Darcy!

Have just completed the Mr Darcy quote bracelet.

"In vain I have struggled.  It will not do.  My feeling will not be repressed.  You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

I love pride and prejudice.  The BBC adaption always makes me smile inside no matter how many times I have seen it before.  To me it really does some up the perfect love story.

I'll be posting this in my etsy shop this afternoon, and a post for cutsom quote bracelets too.  I may try make a wrap bracelet in black with cog and gear details embossed around it next...

Inspiration

I LOVE this bird skull mask made by snegoratchka on etsy.  The detail, materials and textures are fantastic.  I think it may prompt some bird skull inspired leather work as an experiment.

Steampunk Jewellery #1

Chocker style necklace I made from clock hands.

I also have black clockhands so may create a more gothic version of this as well.  Perhaps black with midnight blue.

Steampunk Bride

A custom fascinator/veil that I made for a steampunk themed wedding last year, in colours to match the bride’s dress.  The materials for which make up the banner for my blog and etsy shop.

Sad yet Beautiful

In the Guardian's 'A Life in Pictures' today they looked at the artist Satoshi Kitamura.  I thought this picture from a kid's book, and the explanation beneath, just captured something ever so touching:

"After he is sacked from the dawn chorus because he can't sing in tune, Igor goes off into the desert and builds a nest on a big rock, where he thinks nobody will hear him"

Lush...

... are running a competition to design a scarf!  The prize is 10 of your scarf design and as many Lush products as you can wrap up in one of them.  Could definitely be fun.

Handfasting Belts

Two friends of mine are having their Handfasting at Stonehenge this weekend.  Amongst other things they needed belts that would hold the swords and the keys that they swap as part of the ceremony.  Cue making of custom leather belts:

The start of a blog...

My etsy shop is looking bare.  : (
This is sad because I have a million ideas of things I want to make and put up there so it can a be bright, cheery, wonderful place.

Why did I start an etsy shop?  To be honest it’s just that I love creating things and it’s so satisfying to see them presented nicely and to share them with people.  And it's good to have another excuse to be making things that I don't need but think are lovely ideas.

It's funny - I made my first actually sale last month, and I was far more over the moon than I thought I'd be.  I was buzzing for ages.  I think perhaps it's just wonderful to have some like something you created so much that they actually want to own it, despite all the thousands of other wonder things on etsy.

No chance to make things this week.  It’s my friend’s wedding (well, handfasting) in stonehenge this weekend and I am busily making her and her husband-to-be coats and belts and things for their ceremony.

But I would like my shop to be less bare.  So... plan is to start slow and try and finish two things in the next fortnight:

-    Steampunk fascinator – out of hand sewn leather, peacock feathers, and embossed cogs and gears.

-    The Mr Darcy quote bracelet.  Stamped soft brown leather (just needs fasteners adding).

Will post pics as soon as I get started!
